Notes on the Klawitter Wharf

As Wolfgang E. Krumbein points out, the Klawitter Wharf lies next to the wharf of Lech Walesa the fomer Polish President and Solidarnosc leader (See also the Danzig map).

A family anecdote exists that the Klawitters posessed a Parrot who spoke and sat in the entry gate of the wharf. In the evenings the workers would say to the Fore-man "Herr Häwelke - nu gone we" i.e. Mr Häwelke, now we go. Once the bird was stolen by an unknown man and recovered for the owners because he (the bird) continued to scream: "Herr Häwelke nu gone we!"

There is a page on the Klawitter wharf (in Polish).
