As Wolfgang E. Krumbein points out, the Klawitter Wharf lies next to the wharf of Lech Walesa the fomer Polish President and Solidarnosc leader (See also the Danzig map).
A family anecdote exists that the Klawitters posessed a Parrot who spoke and sat in the entry gate of the wharf. In the evenings the workers would say to the Fore-man "Herr Häwelke - nu gone we" i.e. Mr Häwelke, now we go. Once the bird was stolen by an unknown man and recovered for the owners because he (the bird) continued to scream: "Herr Häwelke nu gone we!"
